Happy Birthday Griff

Today Griffin turned eight years old. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun. He hadn’t been very vocal about the anticipation of his birthday, this morning I asked him what day it was and his answer was Tuesday, ha. I did ask. Matt made him eat his breakfast before he opened presents and you know what? he didn’t eat faster than usual. I’m not sure he really understood that he was going to get cool presents, he was so thrilled with his two “prizes” though that the most frequently used word this morning was “beautiful”.

This afternoon the boys arrived home on the bus and Griff was his usual quiet smiley self, I was kind of suprised because I thought he would race inside, we suprised him with a table full of gifts and an Optimus Prime cake. He coudn’t stop saying thankyou for his prizes and then we were off to JB HiFi to spend some of his cash on a new playstaton controller. He ate his favourite popcorn chicken (KFC) for dinner, went to Taikedokai and brushed his teeth before bed with his new transforming Optimus Prime toothbrush. He had a “beautiful” day.

Hey Steve Vai, Happy Birthday

So on the 6th of June it was Steve Vai’s birthday. Matt called me in the afternoon before the boys were due home from school and asked me to go and buy a cake so we could celebrate. When the boys got home I told them we were going to the shops to buy cake. They were both excited, so off we went. Now, any trip to the supermarket with the boys is difficult enough. We look at the cakes. Saxon asks “where are the guitar cakes” I have to explain that the supermarket doesn’t make guitar shaped cakes, let’s just have a round cake. Saxon bursts into tears, so we buy a plain round double sponge cake and go looking for the rest of the supplies we need to create this masterpiece.
Once home Saxon is very helpful, Dad calls to check everything is going well with the cake and talks to Saxon trying to convince him it will be quite okay to have a round cake. the answer is no, it must be a guitar, Steve Vai green to be exact.
I must say I think we did pretty well under pressure. I wonder if Steve Vai’s cake was a cool as ours?. The boys sang in their best voices before blowing out the candles, it was a fun little party.
Happy birthday Steve Vai.
