I’m not a Soccer Mum.

When the boys were babies I just assumed they would grow up playing sports. They don’t. One plays drums, the other plays Halo on his Xbox 360.  When Saxon was 18 months old he discovered Steve Vai and that was it. No trains, no Hotweels, no Wiggles. Only Steve Vai.  I’m sorry to say I had very little knowledge of Steve, I never even listened to David Lee Roth when I was in High School. Silly me.  I’m well versed in him now! Tonight was Saxon’s first G3 concert, he had a wishlist of songs he was hoping to see live and unbelievably got to see just about every song he wanted to. The Animal was his favourite. We were in the front row, another first for Saxon.

The evening started with Steve Lukather, Saxon sat there watching intently, occasionally checking his ipod for the time, waiting for Steve Vai. Steve Lukather was given a rather huge compliment when Saxon said he was “better than Roger Waters” lol.

Steve was next, Saxon was in his element. Loved every second, knew every note. Mike Keneally was a huge hit, Saxon knew he played with Frank Zappa and he owns his Vai Reductions CD. Sax was the only person in the front row who got out of his seat during the set. I’ve been told by friends who were there, the whole venue could see him rocking out down the front in his flower shirt.

Joe Satriani was essentially new music, Saxon has never really allowed himself to listen to him. who knows why really? I have a few theories but I digress…

By the time the G3 jam started Saxon was losing steam, he started yawning, needed hugs, resisted falling asleep with all his might. The concert was a huge success, Saxon is one happy little Vegemite and continues to anticipate Steve’s new album,  due out hopefully as soon as possible. Tomorrow would be good;)

Sometimes friends are made in the most unusual circumstances.

Cowboys.

When Matt was a kid he rode horses competitively.  At the age of about twelve,  his life’s goal was to be a Cowboy. He wanted to compete in the Barrel race at the Calgary Stampede. He was good too, his best barrel race time was 17 point something.  He wanted to ride Bulls too but his Mum wouldn’t let him. Ha!

Tonight was all about showing the boys what Dad did when he was a kid.  They both liked seeing the horses. We spent most of the evening trying to get Saxon to keep his jumper on, it was freezing cold. He didn’t care.
